Applying Your Vinyl Decal

Step by Step

1. 1Prep the surface. Wipe the area with rubbing alcohol (or mild soap and water), then dry completely with a lint-free cloth. Skip ammonia cleaners like Windex — they leave a film the vinyl won't stick to. Freshly painted wall? Wait 2–3 weeks before applying so the paint fully cures.
2. 2Work at room temperature. Vinyl applies best between 60–85°F. Too cold and it won't grip; in direct hot sun it gets stretchy. Indoors, you're almost always fine.
3. 3Position it first — don't peel anything yet. Tape the decal to the surface with the backing still on. Step back, check it's level and where you want it. For large pieces, measure from the ceiling/floor or a door frame — eyes lie, tape measures don't.
4. 4Make a tape hinge. Run a strip of masking tape across the TOP edge of the decal, sticking it to the wall. This lets the decal swing like a flap while staying perfectly positioned.
5. 5Peel and press, a little at a time. Lift the decal up on its hinge and peel a few inches of the paper backing away from the top — the vinyl stays on the clear transfer film. Lower it and squeegee firmly from the CENTER outward and downward in overlapping strokes. Peel a few more inches of backing, squeegee, repeat until you reach the bottom. Never let loose vinyl slap onto the surface.
6. 6Squeegee everything once more. Go over the whole design with firm, overlapping strokes — pressure is what makes the adhesive grab.
7. 7Remove the clear transfer film SLOWLY. Peel it back flat against itself (a sharp 180° angle), low and slow. If the vinyl starts lifting with it, stop, lay the film back down, squeegee that spot hard, and try again from a different corner.
